EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Current Texas license. Two to three years of management experience required. One year of experience in home care services required. Car with required insurance coverage and a valid Texas drivers license.
MACHINES, ETC.
All types of home care equipment utilized by the patients and staff, business office equipment, as well as forms and paperwork necessary for department function and management.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS
Appointed by: Agency Administrator
Supervised by: Agency Administrator
Workers supervised: All Nursing and other Clinical Staff including contracted clinical staff.
Inter-relationships: Works effectively with the Medical Staff and other members of the home care team, and administration staff. Maintains cooperative working relationship intra-deparmentally and inter-departmentally.
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Nurses/Clinical Services is responsible for the management and coordination of all aspects of the nursing service including: clinical and administrative to achieve quality care and optimum results in accordance with the stated purpose of home care services.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
Supervises and coordinates all services provided in Nursing.
Provides and controls materials, supplies and equipment necessary for successful operations of the department.
Maintains an effective communications system.
Demonstrates personal and professional responsibility.
Demonstrates administrative responsibility to assure proper functioning of the Nursing Department.
SUPERVISES AND COORDINATES ALL SERVICES PROVIDED IN NURSING
Observes staff in duties with regard to practices, procedures, and possible improvements.
Applies Agency policies to insure consistent quality patient care.
Assures presence of adequate staff to provide quality patient care.
SUPERVISES AND COORDINATES ALL SERVICES PROVIDED IN NURSING
Directs and delegates control of inventories and provides adequate available resources for patients to access for total quality care.
Evaluates needs for new or different items in regard to present and new trends/needs of the department.
Observes use and handling of supplies to decrease mishandling or incorrect use.
MAINTAINS AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
Consults with and advises the Administrator and governing board on problems relating to operation of the Nursing Department.
Demonstrates proper communication skills.
Communicates with peers, medical staff, other agency staff and personnel representative of organizations in a concise, tactful and considerate manner.
Listens carefully and objectively to others.
Demonstrates proper written communicative skills through written reports, memos and other communications that are concise, organized and comprehensive.
DEMONSTRATES PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Supports the philosophy and objectives of the Agency.
Adheres to and supports Agency policies and procedures.
Reports to work as scheduled and days absent do not exceed the number prescribed by personnel policies.
Accepts additional duties as assigned by the Administrator.
Accepts constructive criticism pertinent to the performance of his/her job.
Demonstrates self-motivation, direction and presents suggestions on ways and means to enhance and/or improve our health care capability.
Works together with other staff in a tactful and considerate manner.
Selects and attends educational opportunities appropriate to his/her professional needs.
Displays appropriate personal hygiene, grooming, and dress.
Displays flexibility, but possesses strong inter-personal skills.
Maintains a professional attitude and preserves confidentiality of information as necessary.
DEMONSTRATES ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITY TO ASSURE PROPER FUNCTIONING OF THE NURSING DEPARTMENT
Completes department budget in accordance with guideline as prescribed by the Administrator.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of rules and regulations of regulatory agencies to maintain quality standards.
Coordinates purchasing and program needs with allocation of funds to provide optimum care.
Identifies and resolves potential patient care problems.
Participates or delegates participation in community activities with particular references to home care services.
Develops and reviews the department’s goals and objectives.
Implements a quality assurance mechanism to assess the overall function of Nursing.
Establishes and organizational structure, organizes daily functions and re-evaluates as necessary.
Provides administrative direction of department.
Assures personnel policies are implemented.
Designates an alternate Director in his/her absence.
